Did you know that QuickHostUK offer both SSL certificates and PCI scanning solutions?

What does this mean?

SSL Certificates

Google and many other search engines prefer HTTPS sites over HTTP and will actually rank them higher that their HTTP counterparts in search results.

Also If you intend to use your site for any activity whereby you would be taking customer information in digital form, for example: online forms, online chat boxes, online payment systems, etc. you should encrypt that transmission from the site visitor to your site.

As more and more online shoppers think about online security, protecting their sensitive information submitted on your websites is a must. Users will often look for the green padlock (as above) before entering any information into a website. This is also a great opportunity to show-off your online trust and also demonstrate you care about the security of your visitors.

All of the above is easily done with a SSL certifcate. This can be seen by the green padlock in the URL bar of your web browser:

SSL

PCI Scanning

If you will be using your website as an online store, you will likely be required to become PCI DSS compliant by the people that processes your online payments. An example of this would be PayPal. If you accept Credit or Debit Cards on your site, you will also need to be compliant.

Becoming PCI compliant consists of 2 steps. Step 1, your site would need periodic scanning by a registered PCI vendor. Step 2, your site would need to PASS the scan. If your site fails the scan, you simply need to address any security concerns and rescan once fixed. Once you have a pass you will obtain your certificate which you can then pass to your payment gateway provider such as PayPal. The process will continue for as long as you continue to trade.
